MEANINGFUL OBJECT

  • What object did you choose to photograph and why?
    • I chose the keychain that I purchased the first time I went to Paris. I chose this object because it reminds me of all the amazing moments in my life. It tells me to keep climbing for my passions and to keep exploring this amazing planet. Whenever I look at this keychain I have the urge to travel and hope onto a plane.
  • What is a compositional element(s) did you choose? How did the compositional element(s) add to the meaning or purpose of the photograph?
    • I used texture, this made the picture stand out and really convey to the viewer that I am in love with traveling. I used the rule of thirds, this attracted the eye to the Eifel tower and let the eye rest in all the black space and area. I also wanted to focus on the beautiful reflection that was achieved thanks to the surface of my piano.
  • Do you think you were successful in translating your thoughts into a visual form? What aspects of the photograph lead you to this conclusion?
    • Yes, I wanted a lot of attention put on the image. The texture of the keychain is accentuated quite well and one can clearly tell where it is from and what it is. The gold beautifully contrasts with the black and it really helps the object stand out.
  • What would you do differently if you did it again?/What would make it better?
    • I could do a better job of focusing the image. I could also make sure I am aware of the reflections and images in the background that may distract the eye. If you look at the before and after you can see that the piano made the objects in the background quite distracting. I would not have had this problem if I just used a black poster board, however, I really wanted the reflection of the tower on the ground.
